Paint Class & More Princess Diana Memories

My first paint class was more of a private lesson and I'll share that pic with you on Wednesday of next week. We painted Tiger Lilies.

The second paint class today was hollyhocks. When we lived in England we had HUGE hollyhocks in our backyard. We lived in a 14th century coachhouse that was incredible and the gardens even more incredible than any kind of garden I've ever owned.

Barb ~ she won the drawing today and won the project piece I painted in class.

After painting hollyhocks I had tons of memories from living in England come flooding back to me today. I wanted to share the pics from my trip to Paris after Princess Diana passed away. Of course the two places I wanted to visit were the Ritz (why, I don't know ~ just had to ~ seeing that that was the last place she WAS last seen "publicly" before the horiffic accident).

Our tour director told us that
Princess Diana owned the top floor of this complex and stayed there when she came to Paris.

This is the infamous tunnel where the fatal accident occured. I really felt a sense of sadness when we visited this tunnel. There were many people there when we went and it just seemed weird. Weird that it was still open after PRINCESS DIANA died there. You know what I mean. BUT, I'm sure it's the way home for many Parisians, on to the way to work for many Parisians and yet it's the road that claimed the life of one of the most influential WOMEN of our time. Should it have been closed? I don't know but I remember asking that question when we were there.

We visited Pairs two months after the fatal accident happended and people were still laying flowers at the entry of the tunnel.

I know that this "flame" monument was already in Paris for another reason and I'm embarassed to say I cannot remember - I just asked DH and he said isn't that the Princess Diana Memorial. It isn't but after the accident people made it the "Eternal Flame" monument for Princess Di. I belive it was for WW I or WWII or another battle. It was covered with markings ~spray paint with Princess Di and stuff on it and I remember the Parisians weren't too happy that the monument had been ruined with paint and such since it wasn't even built as a momument to her. Anyway, people came to see it and every time we passed it ~ there were lots of people there. It sits just above the tunnel where the accident happened.

I'll leave you with a few glimpses of ALTHORP ~ Princess Di's childhood home. I got to visit the first week it opened to the public in 1998 thanks to my friend Jill and her Aunt that provided tickets to all of us to visit. I took my youngest son with me and will share those pictures with you later next week. Next week marks the 10th year that Princess Diana passed away and again, it's really hard to believe it's been that long.
Have a great weekend!

Congratulations to TERRY ~ my very first OS painting student. She just completed her Certification program and I am so proud of her. I'll show you what she sent me on Monday!

Alice ~ she also won the drawing today so got the project piece I painted in class.

Barb

Nicole ~ (Brian her DH came to watch ~ isn't that sweet?!?!)

I love this window ~ I painted it with Calla Lilies and gave it to my sister I think for her birthday this past May. Can't remember but I think that was the occasion.

I've been gone so much this week during the day and have had very little time with my puppies so I'm gonna get off this computer and go and play with them. Do you have pets? You have to go on over here to Diann's Full Life and check out these adorable pet items! I so wish I knew how to sew!
Have a great weekend!

Have I told you how much fun we have at paint class?

Ms. Nicole being silly! I was gonna put this picture at the bottom but wanted you see we have lots of fun at my paint classes. We were talking about how the orchid had a flap that looks like a tongue. Nicole had a mouth full of chocolate which I also provide for my students ~ gotta keep up coming back and if it's not for the painting maybe they'll come for the chocolate ~ hehehe. Anyway, I told her to stick her tongue out and she did and I snapped the picture.

We painted orchids and everyone did such a fabulous job!

Ruth won the drawing for the day and wanted pink and purple orchids which I painted in class.

Thankfully my head was attached this morning because I am sure I would have left without it.
I must create a checklist for class. I cannot tell you the number of times I've left my camera at home or the camera card. Most of the time it's for a Saturday class and hubby has brought my camera to me numerous times. Got all ready for class and realized I left my camera at home ~ gonna have to make a checklist now cause the mental list I go down isn't working very well.
Luckily I only live 10 minutes from HL and I nipped home and got it just in time for class to start. We practiced on our worksheets and were ready to start and I just looked at my class like what are you waiting on and in an ever so gentle way Nicole said "we need paint"! OMGosh! We're at a paint class huh? Duh? So, I promptly handed out the paint and we moved right along all laughing.

Have a great WEDNESDAY!

Monday paint classes ~

We painted Decorative Scroll work on two project pieces.
I paint the outside of the project folders when I get done painting the project piece (cause I hate to waste paint) Here are a couple of the folders I painted for my students.

We painted on these great trays ~ purely decorative ~ would look great hanging on a wall I think.

Then we painted Candle holders.

Jane

Jane won the drawing and I painted this tray for her.

I goofed and let Melanie leave class without getting her picture ~ sorry Melanie ~ we'll get a pic next time. :)

House update: Things went well with the builder. He's very impressed with our property & the potential of building our house. My husband really felt this is the guy to do it. Very impressed with the time he gave him, showed him the house he is personally building for himself and ready to start getting to work for us. They can have it built in 9 months ~ YIKES. So, now we have decide when we'll start, if we're gonna start, etc. Will keep you posted.

Have a wonderful week.
