Great painting week!

 

Had a wonderful few days this past week spending time with my friend Carol! She came in from Canada to take a wOil Certification and stayed at our home so we had lots of time to paint, chat, and paint some more!  LOVED getting to know her better! My husband and children really enjoyed getting to know her as well and were blown away with her ability to speak Spanish when we took her to our favorite restaurant.  THANKS Carol for everything!

 

Friday in paint class we painted this cornucopia that I designed. I love the way it turned out and think everyone did a beautiful job!!

SOAP BOX TIME!

Okay.....I usually don't use my blog to get on a soap box but I wanted to share something that happened to me and hope that you haven't had the same thing happen to you!!

First things first though!  Please continue to keep my mother in law in your thoughts and prayers. She is still in the hospital - a rehab hospital now to regain some of her strength. She ended up with C-Diff which I'm sure some of you have heard of and has been fighting each day to get better and better so that she can go home!  I'm one blessed lady to have such a wonderful Mother in LOVE! I truly do adore her!!

Today her and my Father in LOVE celebrated 55 years of MARRIAGE!!


Okay, so now the soap box - jumping on so hold tight!

How often do you check your cell phone bill for misc. charges?

Well, thankfully my husband is on top of each and every account, bill, etc. that we have. Thankfully we don't have many but of the ones we do he can tell you exactly how much it should be each month - me on the other hand - I think because he is on top of it I usually don't worry about it too much.
 :( Sad I know.

Well, my husband noticed that our bill was about $10 more than it should be - got online to check the data usage, etc. and my phone had an extra charge of $9.99 because of something I signed up for?

Well, if it's one thing I don't do - that is sign up for things on my phone.

HOWEVER, I remembered when he mentioned the charge that I had been getting some text messages with TIPS each day. Wasn't quite sure how or why so I didn't give it much thought.  WELL....when hubby called Verizon they said that I had a charge because of this prize/tip text msg. thing that started last month. ????

I didn't sign up for anything.
I didn't request to receive these texts.
I didn't sign up for TIPS - although I did learn that you can sharpen your pencil sharpener by wrapping aluminum around a pencil and putting it into the sharpener - great tip - but wasn't worth $10

Well.....here's the clencher!!! Companies can send you these texts and you have to OPT OUT of them in order to not get charged. I usually leave text msgs. in my phone for some time so I went back and sure enough at the end of the text that was sent with a TIP there it said "text STOP" to opt out or you'll be charged $9.99.  REALLY.  How is this legal? I didn't ask for these yet they can be sent to my phone and charged to my bill if I don't take the time to OPT OUT?!?!?! 

So....make sure to check your bill closely. If you have been getting these texts and not sure why - read them closely and OPT OUT if you don't want to pay $9.99 a month.

Okay, enough about that!

I have been pretty much glued to my chair painting, glittering, painting, and glittering some more for Christmas Made In The South in Macon, GA the first weekend in November. My friend Nicole and I (Personalize M.E.) are doing that event and then two weeks later we're doing the Mistletoe Market which will be held at the GA National Fairgrounds in Perry, GA.

wOils Certification




















What a busy but wonderful three days I had painting with these amazing ladies! We painted, painted and painted some more and even after all that they wanted to paint some more!   Kathy & Charlie drove over from North Carolina, Shobha and her family drove down from Maryland and Margaret (already certified but wanted to take the insruction part again) from GA all came prepared to learn and to paint!

One a.m. before they got their I took some extra paint I had from the day before and painted these purple hydrangeas on a canvas that I had already done the background on.

 

 

I did two special classes after the Certification projects - all them wanted to paint hydrangeas and roses.  I didn't want to do something I had already done so they got a fresh out of my head idea as we were painting ~ colors, design and all.  They all did such a beautiful job on their Cert pieces and these two special class pieces and I KNOW they will be painting with wOils A LOT!!!

Will be doing two pattern packets for these two projects - roses will be a bit different - again since it was just straight out of my head and onto the canvas and instruction while we were painting them - I wasn't thrilled with my final rose design so will take the creative license to change that up a bit! :)

 

 

Am so thrilled that my mother in love(law) is doing better! She is improving day by day but they are keeping her in the hospital til later this week to regain some strength. She had a terrible reaction to some antibiotics that were prescribed to her for infection after dental work. Well, 1 in 10 people have a reaction like she did and it landed her in the ICU. Think that is why meds scare me - am hearing this all too often about what meds can do and the side effects just don't seem worth it! Continued prayers for her and our family are greatly appreciated! I adore my mother in law - she is a ROCK, a SAINT, and I am truly blessed to have such a loving and caring mother in law!

Fall Landscape with Weeping Willow

Yesterday in paint class we painted this fall landscape with a weeping willow tree ~ one of my favorites. After I attended HOOT and took Dorothy Dent's class in which we painted a weeping willow, I knew I had to teach my students how to paint one!  We painted this landscape with wOils and everyone did such an amazing job

Lanelle brought me this vase that one of her friends purchased but wanted touched up with paint. In fact she didn't just want it touched up she wanted it painted to match some fabric that she had that matched a lot of the motifs that were on the vase. So I got to work with Enamels on it. Was quite pleased with how it turned out and so was Lanelle - hope her friend is too!

It has been a pampering, baking, painting, & more kinda day!

 

This a.m. I finally got my hair done - has been way too long although I'm letting it grow out it was in serious need of color and highlights! If you live local and are looking for a hairdresser ~ Mary at Serenity Salon & Spa is ~ AMAZING!!

 

Then home to paint and get stuff ready for two shows I have coming up with my friend Nicole in November ~ Christmas Made In The South (Macon, GA) first weekend in Nov. & Mistletoe Market (Perry, GA) third weekend in Nov.

 

Then off to meet my parents for a much needed manicure and pedicure!

Had been since July and boy....were they in some dire need of pampering and that I got! Went to a new place today Footprints Spa ~ again AMAZING! So peaceful, serene and customer service was top notch! Asked many times if I was comfortable, if I needed something to drink, etc. Will definitely go back for some more "ME" time!

 

I get to see our oldest tomorrow ~ I'm glad he's in college but I sure do MISS him and MISS him not being here at the house every day. I wanted to make him something that would give him a little taste of "HOME" and what came to mind was something that I've always had fond memories of ~ even down to the packaging!

 

When I was younger and we'd go and visit my grandparents, my grandfather always baked these chocolate no bake oatmeal/peanut butter cookies. Well, we lovingly referred to them as Carl's Cookies. My Grandfather ~ Carl ~ would make them and freeze them and HIDE them because he knew we three girls would eat all of them the first day and want him to make more! He made them PERFECTLY every time! He'd also always pack them in tins separated with wax paper and that always helped us find em ~ cause we knew what we were looking for!

We'd sneak down into the basement and find them in the deep freeze - get some out and yes, knaw on the frozen cookie! They were even good frozen!  Stuff some in our pockets for later and (a little thawing helped too).  He caught on soon when he'd open a tin and half it not more were missing! :)

 

So, today I baked some and dug through cabinets to find a tin that I could put them in separated with wax paper! He'll LOVE em! Of course I left some for all of us here to eat too when he takes his tin back to college with him! I wonder if he'll share with his roommates? :)
